DTN COMMENTS:  All remains quiet in cash cattle country this afternoon, 
and it is looking like the bulk of business is essentially done for the 
week, although a little cleanup may be reported by Mandatory. A light 
trade developed as early as Wednesday with a little scattered business 
done yesterday. Northern dressed deals have been marked at mostly $345, 
$6 lower than the prior week's weighted average basis Nebraska, while 
Southern live deals have been done at $222 to $224, $4 to $6 lower than 
the previous week's weighted averages. 

The just released November 1 on feed report listed 11.7 million head, down 
2% from November 2024. Placements in October totaled 2.04 million head, 
10% below last year; marketings in October totaled 1.70 million head, 8% 
less than the prior year; other disappearance in October totaled 54,000 
head, 2% under the same time last year.

Today's slaughter totaled 105,000 head, 12,000 greater than a week ago, 
but 14,000 less than last year. Saturday's kill is estimated at 7,000 
head, bringing the weekly total to 585,000 head, 9,000 more than the 
prior week, but down 50,000 from 2024. Note that Thursday's kill was 
revised down to 116,000 head. Live cattle futures closed modestly to 
moderately lower, off 5 to 65. Feeder contracts ended the day moderately 
to sharply lower off 45 to 215. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher 
with light to moderate box movement.
